- Take photos or video of the locks, posted papers, removed belongings or shutoff.
- Save landlord messages and write down when it happened and who was present.

If court is today or within three days
- Read the summons or hearing notice and identify the court, case number, date, time and whether it says in-person or remote.
- Call the court using the number from the official Michigan court directory to confirm the event.
- Gather the lease, notices, payment records, messages, photos and any assistance application.
- Contact legal aid and tell them the hearing date first.
